Fire Bricks

It is made using fire clay and has a good resistance against high temperatures. This bricks can be used in kilns, lining surfaces, fireplaces and fireboxes. Fire bricks are manufactured similar to that of normal bricks but not in during the burning process. These bricks can exposed to very high temperature.

Fire clay is used to make fire bricks. There are main two components in clay, silica and alumina. In that silica percentage should be around 60-70% and alumina should be around 25-35%.
Fire clay can be divided in three types and that is based on fire resisting capacity.

Ø  High-grade fire clays
Ø  Medium-grade fire clays
Ø  Low-grade fire clays
Fire bricks are available in yellowish white and white colour. It also has a good chemical resistance.
Fire bricks are three types.
Ø  Acidic fire bricks: These fire bricks are used to resist chemical acidic actions against chemicals.
Ø  Basic fire bricks: These fire bricks are good at corrosion resistance and chemical resistance.
Ø  Neutral fire bricks: These bricks are good enough to withstand against acidic fumes and corrosive actions.

Uses of fire bricks

Ø  These are used for Inner surface lining of kilns, furnaces, chimneys etc.
Ø  These can be used for inner-lining of wood-fired ovens.
Ø  It is used in fire resistance structure and so structures are protected against fire accidents.
Ø  It can be used as an insulating material.
